Every listing on Sotto is a documented object. Studio-grade photography, verified paperwork, and reference-number validation — before the listing goes live. A piece without provenance is a piece without a listing.
Studio-grade photography is not a preference — it is a requirement.Sotto mandates ten documented angles for every listing, including macro shots that reveal dial condition, case wear, and lume integrity. A photograph can hide nothing that a macro lens makes visible.
The paperwork record is as important as the object itself.Sotto verifies each document class before a listing is approved. Missing paperwork does not disqualify a piece — it is noted explicitly and reflected in the listing record.
Box and inner box
Original packaging with cushion and outer box — reference-matched.
Warranty card or guarantee
Date-stamped, dealer-signed. Electronic cards accepted with dealer verification.
Service extract
Manufacturer or authorised dealer record. Date, work performed, parts replaced.
Purchase receipt
Original or copy. Dealer name, date, Reference and serial. Strengthens provenance chain.
Previous sale documentation
Sotto transaction receipt or third-party bill of sale from prior transfers.
Every listing is cross-referenced against the manufacturer Reference database. Serial number, Reference number, and production year are validated against known production records. Mismatches are flagged and reviewed before the listing is permitted to proceed.
Sotto uses Capital R for Reference numbers throughout — Ref. 5711/1A-010, Ref. 126610LN, Ref. 3940. This is not stylistic. A Reference is a specific, documented designation. It carries weight. We treat it accordingly.
Some pieces arrive with incomplete documentation, dial swaps, or case modifications that fall outside standard validation. These are not disqualified. They are referred to Sotto's concierge authentication service — a human review with access to specialist resources.
The outcome is transparent: the listing carries a notation of what was independently verified and what remains unverified. Buyers see the full picture. No piece is presented as more documented than it is.
The grey-area piece is not a problem. Undisclosed grey area is.
